As Deputy Chief Executive Organisational Resilience and Safety for the Department of Corrections, Richard is passionate about delivering better and fairer social outcomes through the growth and development of people.

Based in Wellington, Richard has a long-standing commitment to supporting those who work across New Zealand’s corrections system. Since joining the Department in 2004, he has held a number of senior roles, including General Manager Human Resources, Director of Learning and Development, DCE Corporate Services, DCE Service Development, and DCE People & Capability.

Richard is invested in supporting safe and resilient operations, stewardship of practice standards, supporting a learning culture of continuous improvement, and better anticipating, monitoring, managing and responding to critical operational risks. With a history of defence service found among his community of family and friends, Richard has always been impressed and humbled by the work of the New Zealand Defence Force.  His experience as an executive leader in the public service has helped him to make a meaningful contribution to DESC's focus of bringing part time people and employers together.
