As a Defence person, you’ll likely face the challenge of balancing your military and civilian commitments. 

Honest, positive relationships with your employer or educator make things easier for you to balance your commitments and allow you to represent the NZDF values of courage, commitment, comradeship and integrity. In addition, your representation as military personnel is an excellent bridge between the NZDF and the general public. Civilians may not have had the opportunity to come face to face with military personnel before or to understand the wide variety of skills and training you bring to the community.

The Defence Employer Support Council (DESC) provide advocacy and support services, helping to build positive pathways between defence and civilian commitments. We work on reviewing Legislation and Policy that affects Reserves, Cadets and Youth. We talk to the Minister about legal requirements, problems that arise, and adjust how we do things to meet needs.
